Prunotto D.O.C.G | 2014
The Prunotto Barolo 2014 is a wine that reflects the dedication and effort invested in the historic property by the Antinori family. Fermented in stainless steel and aged for 24 months in wooden barrels, this wine comes from vineyards located in Monforte, Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga. It is characterized by its pale red/orange color and offers a fresh attack with earthy red fruits, roses and cedar. The palate is soft and round, with notes of fresh raspberry and licorice, finishing dry with hints of spices and tobacco. Despite its elegance, it is suggested that it needs more time in the bottle to reach its fullness, although it can be enjoyed now, especially if accompanied with meat. Its consumption is recommended after 2023 to fully enjoy its qualities.
This Barolo has been well received by critics, obtaining 92 points from Wine Spectator and 91 points from James Suckling. Wine Spectator highlights its flavors of ripe cherry, licorice, eucalyptus, iron and salt, marking this intense and balanced red wine, with salty notes of undergrowth and crisp tannins. James Suckling describes it as very well done for a 2014 wine, with firm, silky tannins, and a medium body. Its accessibility and fun notes of light strawberry and chocolate make it pleasant to drink.
Wine Enthusiast gives it a score of 93 points, praising its aromas of rose, crushed herbs, balsamic notes and exotic spices, along with a tasty and smooth palette that offers juicy raspberry, wild strawberry, cinnamon and star anise. This already delicious Barolo promises to age well for several more years.
